I teach the smartest kids i know

Photobucket

Alright, so, my preschoolers have had Fruit Loops for their afternoon snack quite a few times. They love them, just as every 3 year old would love any sugary cereal snack. The cereal is always eaten dry, and usually mixed with Goldfish, pretzels, chocolate chips, basically I think anything the kitchen has laying around. We serve it to them in a small cup, they dump the cup out, pick out all their favorite pieces to eat first, eat the rest, that's the end of it.

Anyway, so a couple of weeks ago I taught a lesson on colors. All week long we did things with Fruit Loops such as making the ever so popular Fruit Loops necklaces, which helps kids develop their small motor skills, making patterns with the Fruit Loops, organizing their personal pile of Fruit Loops by color, then counting how many of each color they had, etc. My whole class, all 20 kids, actually sat down one day and separated TWO boxes of Fruit Loops by color, so that we could use them for an art project one day. They LOVED it.

Today we got the oh so yummy Fruit Loops for our afternoon snack. I was in the process of finishing handing them out when behind me I hear one of my kids say "I have 7 Goldfish, 4 blue ones, 1 green one, and 5 red ones." I turn around to look at the girl who had said that. I see on the table that she has organized ALL the contents of her cup not only by color, but by product(they just happened to only have Fruit Loops and Goldfish this time). AND, not only was SHE doing it, but all the other kids that were sitting at the same table as her had started to do it. I turn to my co-teacher and point out what they are doing and I say "I taught them that!!!!" Never before had they done that with their snack. I was SO SO proud. Not only of them, but of myself. I felt good that I had taught them a different way to look at things...and they actually remembered! It's so funny to me that the kids are learning math, and logic, and developing their motor skills, and they have no idea! They just wanna play with food!

Just wanted to share that...have a good weekend everyone!

Oh, p.s. I will be posting a blog on Monday sometime, probably about 2 p.m. my time. PLEASE come back then to read, it's a time sensitive matter!!

Happy Daylight Savings Time Day!

Helllloooooo.

I LOVE daylight savings time. Like seriously, LOVE it. I hate being cold, I hate winter and having to wear coats all the time and having to wake up early to defrost my car. Yuck. No thanks. So,when daylight savings time rolls around, that means, #1:it's going to be daylight longer (duh), and #2 spring is (hopefully!) right around the corner!!! Except when i woke up this morning..I woke up to this:

What the heck, man?? It's MARCH!! There should be flowers blooming and sun shining and I should be able to go out in a t-shirt and flip flops (who am I kidding, I wear flip flops no matter what the weather)!

Speaking of being cold, and on a kinda gross note, these past 6 or so weeks I've noticed that whenever I go out in the cold whatever part of my body that is exposed will turn red and bumpy and itch. I looked like I had some sort of rash, it was quite gross. So I talked to a few people (cause going to a doctor would have just been TOO easy) who suggested that maybe the itchy bumps were hives, and I should start taking some Benedryl so that doesn't happen every time my body temperature drops a couple degrees. Well, it's been about 3 days and I have definitely gotten cold and have had no hives, so I guess it's working! I did a little research on Google (cause the internet is ALWAYS the best way to find facts)and apparently what I have is an actual condition called Cold Urticaria (which literally means cold hives). It's most common in people ages 18-25 (relatively close to my age, so I guess I qualify) and can last for months or 6 years. Hopefully it's the first one. At least I know it's not for the rest of my life. This whole thing is just totally bizarre to me because I've gone my whole life without being allergic to ANYthing, and now, within the past 4 or 5 years I've become allergic to chapstick and cold weather. I guess nothing I do is ever normal!

Now onto a warmer subject...I'm going on vacation(s)!!! As some of you may recall from a couple blogs back, my friend Sarah from Cali came to visit me and set her hair on fire. Well, at the end of March, I'm going to reciprocate!(except for the lighting my hair on fire part) We have TONS of fun stuff planned... including whale watching, a taping of The Price is Right(!!!!!), Hollywood sightseeing in general (Hollywood Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre, Manns Chinese Theatre), going to the BEACH, and eating LOTS of delicious food!! I can't wait to be WARM(er, at least)!!!

At the end of April I'll be going to Houston to see my sister, bro in law and nephew for a few days. I'm really excited to spend more than a weekend there. She's lived there for almost 2 years and that's the longest I've ever been able to spend there! My sister will have cheerleading tryouts for the Houston Texans while I'm there, so while she's doing that I'm gonna help take care of the cutest, sweetest little baby in the whole entire world (that's Connor for those of you who didn't catch on). I don't mind that ONE bit!

In other news, I have officially been accepted into Bright Horizons University to start working towards my Child Development Associates Degree. Online classes officially start March 23rd. I'm nervous but excited at the same time, I hope I do well.

That's about it for now, I think. I'm sorry I haven't been blogging as much, I just haven't really thought about it I guess, but I'll try to blog more regularly so these babies aren't so dang long!!

Love you all, talk to you soon!

so this weekend FLEW by for me! on saturday i had a mandatory training thing at the starbucks corporate office building in seattle for work. it was from 9-3. it wasn't so bad, we got free coffee and tea! plus we got paid! so i can't complain about that.

on sunday i was baby sitting hiedis two boys while she went to work. it wasn't an amazingly beautiful day but it was nice enough to go outside. we walked a couple of miles to a park where they got to play for a bit. then we walked back home. it was nice to get out and get some exercise while breathing fresh air. i don't get to do anything during the week besides work, come home, sleep, start over, so i try to make the most of my weekends. this one was definitely a great one! it went by too fast! maybe obama will pass a law to make weekends longer...a girl can dream!

til next time...

hello,you

in case you can't tell by my lack of blogging, these past few weeks have been pretty hectic. I haven't even had time to THINK about blogging. actually, that's not true. on saturday night i made a really long videoblog, but it had no sound. so,you get this.

let's see...what have i been up to the past 2 weeks...

well, the mxpx show i went to in seattle with my friend cindi was a BLAST. that night we came back to my house, played some Phase 10 and fell asleep. the next day it was gorgeous so we took a walk around downtown tacoma with my roommate heidi.

after that, back to work for a week.

on FRIDAY my friend Sarah from california flew up for the weekend. crazy insane good times were had by all. her friend allie drove up from oregon to meet us in tacoma and that weekend we managed to: see jimi hendrix grave, drink lots of coffee,go to a Tumbledown show in Seattle, visit pikes place market and the original starbucks, have a super fun dance party that resulted in sarah setting her hair on fire(hahahahahahahahaha!...i mean, how tragic...),eating a delicious breakfast at ihop, seeing the "famous mountain", and seeing every site in my area that had to with the movie 10 things i hate about you that there was to be seen.(if i missed anything, sarah, feel free to add that on)there are lots and lots of pictures and video that i will put up at a later time. PROMISE. i was super sad to see her go, but i'm planning a trip to cali at the end of march so i'm REALLY excited for that!

while i'm on the subject of trips...i'm also planning a trip to houston to visit my sister and her family in may and i'm DEFINITELY going to be in minnesota for the 4th of july.you heard it here first! more busy-ness to come...can't wait!!

you may remember reading about me wanting to apply for the free online classes my work offers and going for my Child Development Associates. Well, i've officially applied and should hear back whether i got accepted by the end of february.

that's about the jist of it for now. hope everyone is doing ok...i know i owe some of you phone calls and emails...i'll get to those as soon as i can! talk to YOU soon!

something to someone

i have a few songs i could listen to repeat day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute, second after second, and never get tired of. these songs include:
come down to me-saving jane
invitation to understanding(acoustic)-mxpx
world spins madly round-the weepies

another one of these is "something to someone" by Lit. when i was homeless back in the beginning of '06 i connected to this song because i felt like no one wanted me,wanted me to live with them, or wanted me around. i love these lyrics and have been listening to them all night...so here they are,for your reading pleasure:

Something To Someone lyrics
They say something I don't wanna hear
Ringin' like a shotgun in my ear
But they don't know what I'm really aimin' for
Gonna leave a mark on society

Faster and faster my whole situation
Fallin' apart, crossin' my heart
And I hope to live
But something has to give

'Cuz I just wanna be something
I just wanna be someone
Someone who stands out in the crowd
Mother would be proud
Something to someone

These days gettin' shorter by the year
Tickin' like a time bomb loud and clear

Faster and faster the whole situation
Fallin' apart, straight from the heart
Then I sing my song
And I'll prove them wrong

Faster and faster my own situation
Rollin' along, provin' you wrong
And you can't believe
What you see when you're lookin' at me...

Somethin' to someone
